Engine Magazine Today’s Formal Wear

Japanese fashion glossy Engine Magazine printed this editorial titled “Today’s Formal Wear” as part of their January 2010 issue.  Male model Robert Rae was photographed by Jinji Hata and styled by Tomoki Sukezane for the spread which highlights the evolution of formal wear from some of the world’s most renouned designers.  Major labels including Hermes, Gucci, Burberry Prorsum, Prada, Tom Ford, Black Fleece by Brooks Brothers, Jil Sander, and Casely-Hayford all provide a distinct and identifiable interpretation of where formal men’s wear is at and going to be.  I have admit that Black Fleece by Brooks Brothers surprised me the most for having a youthful offering while Prada may be the first major label to take the studded trend a bit too far.  I’m indifferent about the Burberry Prorsum navy crushed velvet suit, but I am willing to forgive that because the editorial makes you think outside the box.  Tom Ford on the other hand continues to hold it down.  I am going to say it here first.  When it comes to men’s formal wear, no one, I repeat, no one does it as well as Tom Ford.
