More popular in the United States as a maker of luxury shoes, Ato Matsumoto just released this impressive military-inspired jacket as part of his apparel line, “ato.” Never heard of the brand? Well then, allow me to drop a brief synopsis. Ato Matsumoto is a Japanese fashion designer and founder of the Japanese fashion brand ato (not usually capitalized). His brand has been around since the early 1990′s (officially as ato in 1993), creating shoes and clothing. The ato brand came to the attention of Americans and other English speaking fashion fans in 2007 when Kayne West began wearing ato sneakers at some of his high profile appearances. The AM9C-K08 jacket subtly brings together various iconic elements of outerwear design. Most notably the nylon and wool piece appears to draw from a cross between the refined Harrington jacket and a utilitarian MA-1 jacket style. A nylon zip pocket rests on the jacket’s sleeve and on the inside is your standard bright orange lining. Oh, and for those of you who mistakenly thought I was humble, I told you the military-inspired look was back for Spring 2010.
