Spotting an ultra soft black leather Alexander Wang studded purse at my local Barneys Co-Op store over the weekend I have found a renewed love for the studded trend. So naturally, when I heard that two urban heavyweights like Swagger and Head Porter had teamed up on this new “M.E.T.A.L.” Collection of accessories I had to report on it. The two frequent collaborators present a collection that makes heavy use of studs consisting of backpacks and wallets, each coming in both black and military green.

Lily Aldridge For Marie Claire

Highlighting the Spring 2010 season’s prominent military-inspired trend Lily Aldridge was shot by photographer Matt Jones for Marie Claire. The editorial titled “Military Tactics” appears in the March 2010 issue and provides a healthy look at the latest soldier-inspired jackets, deconstructed combat boots, and even taps into the studded trend we have seen with some metal decorum. I guess we were actually on point when we told you that military-inspired attire would be back for Spring 2010 back in October. (Patting myself on the back right now.) Moving on, it is pretty amazing what a good photographer can do with a gorgeous woman, some desert, and a couple fashionable items.

ato Studded Cowhide Boot

The Japanese scene has been one of the biggest supporters of the studded trend that we have seen literally jump from the runways to the streets in the past couple of months. Jimmy Choo’s collection for retailer H&M has a variety of studded pieces, Christian Louboutin’s Spring / Summer 2010 Collection is dripping in them, and even the Hellz x Reebok collaborative “Top Down Sneakers” got the stud treatment. So of course Japanese luxury shoe maker ato was not to be outdone by the competition. Their now notably famous “Cowhide Boot” gets suited up for the studded festivities in a lethal black on black colorway. Round studs and traditional square studs are strategically placed on the shoe’s already prominent silhouette. This one is a winner kids.

For any of you out there who may have doubted the popularity of the Christian Louboutin studded Louis sneakers I highlighted late last month, I bring you confirmation. As part of the Christian Louboutin’s Spring / Summer 2010 Collection, the shoes have been creating a buzz long before they were even official. Well here Pharrell Williams shows off his own pair of black Louis with Mr. Christian Louboutin himself standing by in of course a pair of his own black leather “Rollerball” loafers. Being as how it is both Pharrell and Louboutin and each as their own notable role in fashion, they are both dressed pretty sedated. Kind of ironic with such extreme footwear, or is it just me?

Ladies, don’t let that fact that we are men fool you, when you wear a pair of shoes like these we notice. Christian Louboutin has released their Spring / Summer 2010 Collection for both men and women. Loyal followers may remember that I have already featured the studed men’s hightop sneaker dubbed the “Louis” in an earlier post. You can see how the recent studded trend has had a notable impact on the collection, especially when you compare it to the Fall / Winter 2009 Collection I brought you a while back. I love the patterned, strappy gold heels. Those with some nice denim on a hot sunny day and I might actually stare at a girl’s feet instead of, um into her, um eyes? Crystallized Swarovski Elements Collection

Cashing in on the timeliness of the studded trend we have been seeing, Swarovski has released this new collection which is a series of collaborative efforts. The brand that specializes in all things crystallized is stamping this offering as their “Elements Collection” with their signature flair being blended with the likes of some familiar names including Bedwin, Visvim, ts(s), John Lawrence Sullivan, 3.1 Philip Lim, Kitsuné and more. Some of the pieces are pretty hot while others look like they came from a garage sale at Elton John’s house. Since pickings are slim I am going to go ahead and call “dibs” on the brown belt, cufflinks, and that James Bond “Die Another Day” (or if you prefer circa 1971 Sean Connery Bond, “Diamonds are Forever”) inspired black shawl collar jacket.

Hellz x Reebok Top Down Sneakers

Since we have been posting about the latest studded trend, why not keep it going? Fresh off the shelf is this collaborative effort from Hellz and Reebok set to launch this Black Friday, November 27, 2009. Dubbed the “Top Down,” the hi-top sneakers feature a simple black/white colorway with a roll-down flap and perforated leather uppers. It comes with optional shoe string colors (black and neon yellow), tonal stud detailing and a punk rock attitude to go along with it. Now hold on to your jockstraps fellas, this is a female only drop from the funky women’s apparel brand. Now just close your eyes and imagine Borat standing in front of you saying “You will never get this!”

Studded Custom Dior Homme Denim

Okay, one of the blogs that I personally frequent is the Jak & Jil Blog. Tommy Ton, it’s founder, has said that the site is a “work in progress where everyday is fashion week.” And, let me tell you that the site delivers on this promise. In a post late last night titled “Heavy Metal” the Jak & Jil team shows us just how saturated this studded trend has become. From the runway, to Christian Louboutin, to this spectacular pair of Dior Homme denim customized with a plethora of copper studs, the trend has taken over. The sheer white shirt reminds me a lot of the Bumboo shirt I just picked up and seems to offset the ferociousness of the “spiked out” and torn look of the custom denim. While I am sure sitting may be awkward at best, the look is really well done.

French luxury shoemaker Christian Louboutin debuted a small collection of men’s shoes for the fall / winter 2009 season that may have gone “under the radar” for most men. Well known for his fiery-red soles on some seriously sexy women’s shoes, these kicks are definitely going to garner more attention. The solo sneaker style of the men’s line, the Louis, returns for spring / summer 2010 completely studded out. The Louis will be available in black or white leather. Studs have been making a slow creep in to the fashion world pioneered by the likes of Prada and Christian Louboutin. I think the phase will come and go pretty quickly, but until then these are some pretty mean looking kicks. But for $1,200 a pop they should be. I’m just say’n.
