The folks over at GQ have blessed us with this preview of one fresh looking backpack. In celebration of the 25th anniversary of Barneys Co-Op, Porter – the Japanese line of understated, meticulously constructed bags – is launching an exclusive collection that’ll debut in stores this September. In a nod to the Co-Op’s downtown spirit, the three bags (a $470 briefcase, $620 backpack, and $450 duffle) come in silver nylon satin with cobalt blue lining, making them damn near impossible to miss at the baggage claim.

Samantha Ronson x Supra NS Indy

A friend of Supra since their beginnings, Samantha Ronson was offered a chance to create her own rendition of the brand’s Indy NS model for the Fall 2009 season. Adding a fashionista element, the kicks are given a black/metallic gold colorway with a suede/pony hair upper amongst the signature NS platform. Of course Supra will be throwing an official launch party this Saturday, August 8th, at Angels & Kings in Chicago with a live DJ set by none other than Samantha Ronson and performance by the GZA of Wu-Tang fame.

Reebok ERS 5000 Maeda Reduce

Reebok’s teaming up with graphic designer and mathematician John Maeda goes as far back as 2007, but the metallic hotness you see before you doesn’t need that long of a commitment to appreciate. Drawing inspiration from numbers, his aesthetics would be rooted in intricate programming and coding. In a fall/winter release, John Maeda introduces a shoe based on Law 1: Reduce, taken from his book The Laws of Simplicity. Law 1 states that “the simplest way to achieve simplicity is through thoughtful reduction.” No, I have no idea what the hell that means either. Thankfully I don’t have to understand it to like the end result which is a tonal metallic silver upper based on the running model, ERS 5000.

PF Flyers Astor F/W 2009

New for PF Flyers’ fall 2009 line-up, the Astor fuses fashion-forward thinking with classic sport lifestyle shoes, elevating the combined perspective of fashion and sport. Built on a minimalist couture court sole, the Astor boasts a fully ribbed upper and tongue with a leatherhook-and-loop closure. The Astor will be available this month, July 2009 in three colorways: grey/orange, bone/blue, and gold/black. I am not the biggest fan of PF Flyers personally, but I am definitely considering purchasing a pair of these. They almost remind me of the PF Flyers Albin crossed with the Supra Skytops with a hint of the Vans Moda Hi. And, like I’ve been predicting metallic is making yet another appearance in the gold/black colorway.

Adidas Samba MTL

Being as how I live in the “Land of the Lakers” I may have a particularly larger affection for these new limited edition Adidas Sambas. Released this week in Japan the Adidas Samba MTL comes with a black crackled leather upper and metallic gold accents. In contrast to the upper, the sneaker features a purple sole. Metallic is going to be big for the rest of Summer, but I can’t see it really going too far into the Fall because it doesn’t pair too well with the hunting inspired trend that we have been seeing. I would have liked these shoes even more if the purple sole were a matching gold metallic, but they are still perfect for the “Lake Show.”

3.1 Phillip Lim 1 Year Anniversary

Life is good when you are a Phillip Lim. So good in fact that Vogue threw a huge 1 year anniversary party for 3.1 Phillip Lim, Phillip Lim’s West Hollywood, California store held on July 15, 2009. Of course there was an overabundance of both celebrities and fashion insiders. Actress Rachel Bilson, actress Kristen Bell, actress Molly Sims, singer Jewel, rapper eve, singer Leona Lewis, actress Maggie Q, Vogue’s senior west coast editor Lisa Love, and many more. I’ve included some store shots just before the festivities and a couple of during them. I am really liking Rachel Bilson’s metallic rolled short and jacket outfit. I think metallic prints, fabric, and accessories are going to be big soon, if not already kids.

Supra “4th of July” Exclusives

For America’s Indepedence Day, Supra Footwear has released a series of exclusive releases at their Factory 413 store. The Skytop, Trinity NS, Indys and Strapped come in chrome mirror, gold mirror, chrome gold, chrome charcoal and army suede colorways and are all said to be “extremely limited.” All the metallic uppers come in patent leather which appears to be a growing trend. I have seen similar offerings from Bape, Nike, Adidas, and more. Are we beginning a move from this summer’s neon trend into a metallic one? Only time will tell.

Adidas Vulcanized Slim

I’ve always liked the Adidas Originals line because they are classic looking shoes that can be worn equally with a suit or denim. Since I wear a suit everyday this kind of versatility really appeals to me. In their most recent addition to the Originals lineup Adidas reworks the Vulcanized Slim. The shoe features a low profile upper with minimal perforated detailing, including an outline of the traditional three stripe motif. Two colorways have now been released including a tonal white and metallic bronze colorway, both available at select Adidas Originals Concept locations. Happy shoe hunting kids!
