Hiroshi Fujiwara’s Custom Rolex Air King

This is going to be one of those posts where I am going to let my ego out of the bag. A couple of months back I brought you a look at the Rolex x J.Crew Vintage Air King watch available direct from J.Crew for around $2,300.00 USD. Not a bad price for a fully refurbished, vintage Rolex. And, prior to that particular post, I brought you a closer look at some custom Rolex watches from customizer Black-Out Concept. I was first turned on to Black-Out Concept while reading Kanye West’s 10 Essentials in GQ Magazine. Back then I said, and I quote “If I had the funds I would totally pick up a used Rolex, out of warranty, at a bargain, have this process done and get a totally custom watch for less than the new Rolex Datejust II.” Well, my idea must have been a pretty legit one, because it would appear as if Hiroshi Fujiwara has done exactly that. Don’t know about Fujiwara? No problem, I will give you a very quick background on a man you should know. Now in his 40′s, Hiroshi Fujiwara is a pioneer of Japanese streetwear. The DJ-turned-designer pioneered the “limited-edition” craze in collaborations with Nike (HTM), Burton (iDiom), and Levi’s (Fenom), while also developing some very noteable brands of his own like Good Enough, Head Porter, and of course Fragment Design. Along the way, he’s made music with Eric Clapton, mentored a kid named Nigo (A Bathing Ape/BAPE), and even popped up next to Scarlett Johansson and Bill Murray in Lost In Translation. This extremely custom timepiece features pink dials along with a Fragment Design logo and matching pink accenting.
