Kogi BBQ Truck in Costa Mesa

A lot of you out there may not know what Kogi is yet, but you really should. It is somewhat hard to explain so bear with me on the description of the food. Kogi serves tacos, burritos, sliders and more out of mobile trucks. They aren’t just ordinary Mexican food serving lunch trucks though, they are gourmet Korean inspired variants mixed with the traditional Mexican vessels. Think Korean short rib tacos, spicy BBQ chicken burritos, and a ridiculously tasty mix of sesame-chili salsa roja, julienne romaine lettuce and cabbage tossed in Korean chili-soy vinaigrette, and cilantro-green onion-lime relish. I have always loved Korean BBQ and this is basically “Korean BBQ-to-go.” When I heard they were nearby in Costa Mesa last night, I made the trip solo and waited a resounding hour and fifteen minutes for what smelled like Korean perfection. Yes, it was absolutely worth the wait. My only regret is that after waiting so long my order went from just two tacos to two tacos, two sliders, and a burrito. I know, I know I am a gluten. I snapped this picture with my iPhone in between games of Texas Hold’em. I also tried to take some pictures of the food, but I was so hungry by that time that I could not wait and I also couldn’t do the food justice with the sub-par iPhone camera. So, I figured you wouldn’t mind the Kogi provided stock photography. The best part is that they are going to be less than a mile from my office tonight in Irvine off of Von Karman Avenue between 6pm and 9pm. Round two baby, that’s right!
