Soulland x V Man Adler Fedora Giveaway

As part of V Man’s dedication to Scandinavia in its latest issue, now on newsstands, the brand’s web presence is launching a giveaway at 2 p.m. today for two navy “Adler Fedora Hats” from the Danish brand Soulland. Created by Soulland’s head designer, Silas Adler, the Adler Fedora is a hybrid between a classic fedora and a baseball cap. It is the product of one of the last factories in Scandinavia that still uses old world, artisan hat-making techniques. Along with the giveaway, V Man will debut an exclusive video of a visit to the factory where the fedoras are made. Each hat retails for $268 and is sold at Assembly New York, 174 Ludlow Street. The giveaway begins today and ends Monday, May 2.

Liv Tyler for G-Star Raw S/S 2010

If you can get past the striking visual similarities of her father, Liv Tyler is a beautiful girl and it should come as no suprise that she has been chosen to be the new face of G-Star Raw. These campaign images feature Liv wearing pieces from the Marc Newsom helmed brand’s forthcoming womens “Low-T” mini-collection and were shot by photographer Anton Corbijn. I don’t know about you guys and girls out there, but the name “G-Star Raw” always makes me think of urban and more hip-hop inspired culture. Yet here we are looking at well cut denim pieces that give almost a modern elegence without being too flashy or too revealing. And now that we are done with the business end of this post let me be the first to say that either their jeans are cut to make everyone’s butt look fantastic or Liv Tyler is in phenominal shape. Don’t let my opinion sway you, make your own decision.

Megan Fox “Hot for Teachers”

Typically I don’t really get too political, but being as how I am a California resident and my sister is a teacher I really felt like this was some relevant content. Megan Fox and beau Brian Austin Green team up with Funny or Die for this politically charged skit titled “Hot for Teachers.” Parents from the Wonderland Avenue Elementary School PTA in Los Angeles enlisted the help of the two actors, actor Geoff Stults, and director Eric Appel for this video aimed at blocking the nearly $2.5 billion in proposed education cuts from the California state budget, which is due for a vote at the end of this April. The Wonderland PTA chapter is asking the public to take action and sign a petition at SayNoToCuts.com requesting Governor Schwarzenegger, the California State Assembly, and the California State Senate to immediately rescind the proposed education cuts. These new cuts come on top of more than $17 billion already slashed from education and social service programs over the past two years, which results in increased class size, fewer janitorial and health services, and reduction in teacher workforce.

Rolex Explorer 2010

Rolex is giving one of their classic Submariner watches, the Explorer, a fresh update for 2010. This refinement included increasing the size of the bezel from 36mm to 39mm. While not as large as it’s relatively new cousin the Datejust II at 41mm, the Explorer 2010 shares the same Arabic numerals. It is a simple update to an iconic watch. While I am not sure about how the purists may feel about the facelift, they might appreciate the Rolex x J.Crew Vintage Air King, I definitely like the updated direction of the Hans Wilsdorf founded Swiss watchmaker.

Kirsten Dunst for V Magazine

When it comes to Kirsten Dunst I don’t exactly know how to feel. Being dressed in Rodarte, Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, Givenchy, Louis Vuitton, Burberry and more and then shot by the great Mario Testino would make nearly any woman look sexy. But, the question remains. Is she or isn’t she? V Magazinetoys with your perceptions of reality in an article titled “The Art of Being Kirsten Dunst” in their latest and greatest Issue #64. With a vintage twist these images make you question whether or not you would walk by Kirsten Dunst if she weren’t a celebrity and hit on her or simply just keep walking. For me, the jury is still out.

Dolce & Gabbana F/W 2010 Mens

With a nod to an earlier era, Dolce & Gabbana bring us their Fall / Winter 2010 collection filled with velvet lapels, dirty denim, skinny ties and Newsboy caps. The pants chosen for the collection are a bit too much of a stretch for my tastes between the dirty denim and the drop crotch, button fly pieces. Everything else; however, is very much classic and timeless. Look carefully at the pieces and you will notice that the cut of the collection is not only slim, but also very much relaxed in some instances. It is Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana‘s portrayal of the evolution of the male silhouette. Nothing really stands out in the collection as revolutionary or risky, but the mix of new cuts and old textures with old cuts and new textures is quite appealing.

Barton Perreira S/S 2010 Optical Collection

One of my favorite local eyewear brands is back with their new Spring / Summer 2010 Optical Collection. I say “one of” because Oakley is in my backyard too and we all know my particular love and affection for their Frogskins. Barton Perreira‘s Optical line isn’t that different from their Sun line. Classic metal and acetate frames are paired with fantastic colorways to give the luxurious products an updated and modern feel while still maintaining both their classiness and timelessness. (Wow, I should consider a career writting press releases.) Some of you may remember my fetish with the “Black Amber Rose” colorway of the Barton Perreira Del Ray acetate aviators. Well, I am sorry to say that I have moved on from Amber Rose (sorry Kanye) to my newest colorway of choice “Heroine Chic.” (Pictured first.) And if their colorways weren’t enough to win you over, Barton Perreira is stepping their game up the same way Band of Outsiders did for their Fall / Winter 2009 Collection by tapping Jason Schwartzman to model their line. Giovanni Ribisi, another one of my favorite actors, was somehow wrangled by the Irvine, California based eyewear company to model this season’s Optical Collection in this video campaign.

Ibn Jasper x Quintin Commercial

I have given you a couple looks at both the gray and the black colorways of Ibn Jasper‘s upcoming collaborative Quintin hat in recent weeks. So, I didn’t bother to bring you the actual release photos. I figured that everyone pretty much got the point. When Mr. “Ferrari Murakami” dropped this commercial for the 5-panel fitted hat that was designed by its namesake to match the Kanye West x Louis Vuitton “Jasper” shoes I was indifferent about posting it. After watching it though, it was too cool to not post. I have to be honest, what sold me wasn’t the look at the hat, the ladies, or the lab vibe. It was Ibn’s swagger in the commercial set to the rhythmic sounds of Goldfrapp’s “Strict Machine.” Well done good sir, well done.

Pull and Bear 2009 X-Mas Collection

Self-proclaimed “fashion store” retailer Pull and Bear is headquartered in Spain where they opened their first stores back in 1991. Growing ever so quickly they company went international only a year later in neighboring Portugal. Then in the coming years expansion continued into Greece, Malta, Israel, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Ireland, Venezuela, Mexico, Jordan, Bahrain, Qatar, Lebanon, France, Italy, Russia, and many more (27 total countries to be exact). But for many of us in Asia and North America, the brand is a relative unknown. Pull and Bear would be something similar to and H&M or a Uniqlo if you would like a reference point. Here the youth oriented Pull and Bear gives us a glimpse into their 2009 Christmas Collection with this whimsical (yeah, that’s right, I just used that word) video.
