The mililtary trend isn’t going anywhere and the next evolution of the blacked out watches we have seen for a couple of seasons now appears to be this hybrid style. The Expedition series Military Chronograph watch features INDIGLO night-light with Night-Mode, 1/20th second precision, date, a stainless steel case, and is water-resistant to 100 meters. My favorite feature; however, is the Codura nylon performance strap.

Acquire Mag was recently blessed with this nifty little sneak peak at a forthcoming military watch by the growing Swiss watchmaking division of Burberry. Being an owner of a very nice 41mm bezel stainless steel Burberry watch already I can tell you that these watches are pretty spectacular. I wear mine daily and it has stood the test of time quite well. The latest offering from Burberry features a timeless black face design inspired by classic military field watches of years past and is perfectly complemented with a matching black canvas NATO-style strap.

J.Crew Chambray Utility Shirt

I know that I am a little late on posting about the chambray shirt trend, but in my defense I was trying to cut back on my spending while I went through a period of closet cleaning. There are just so many pieces that I cannot wear anymore. Pieces that I either never really wore appropriately or that I have lost so much weight that they cannot be worn appropriately anymore. Either way, the closet needed to be stripped. I’m turning thirty years-old in a couple of weeks and I want my attire to reflect a man who understands cut and fit as my tastes have begun to become even more refined. A fashionable light bulb went on in my head a few years ago and I have slowly, but surely been trying to ramp up my wardrobe appropriately. The irony is; however, that I actually have significantly less clothes in my closet now than ever before. With higher-end, well cut pieces you don’t need to have more articles of clothing you just need to have a better understanding of how to accessorize, utilize, and wear pieces differently. Having less options almost forces you to be more sartorial and creative. Inspired by vintage work-wear from the early 1900s and washed for extra softness, J.Crew has put together such a unique shirt that it may just make the cutoff to be part of my new minimalist wardrobe. Genuine Japanese cotton chambray is cut to a well tailored fit for a slimmer cut with a “made-to-measure feel.” I almost wish the point collar was a spread collar, but beggars can’t be choosers right? Typically, as a taller guy I have trouble with shirts that are generically sized. The large has a 16-16 1/2 neck while the sleeves are too short at a 34-35 in length. I plan to stop in to J.Crew and try on both this vintage indigo colorway, the grey, and if I can find it, the red variant too.

I am not sure why, but for some reason I have had a particular affection for gold watches recently. A lot of them have been catching my eye and they would most certainly compliment my gold framed Ray-Ban Aviators quite nicely this summer too. Unless you have been asleep at the fashionable wheel the last year or so, you most definitely know that black watches have been making a statement as an accessory piece from both high-end and low-end watchmakers. Whatever your flavor, Timex has got you covered with their 80 Jumbo Metal watches available in three colorways, the two aforementioned ones and a nice shiny silver one appropriately dubbed “Gold Comet,” “Black Star,” and “Silver Nova.” The over-sized watches metal watches are said to take inspiration from “planets with metal nuances” and are an eagerly anticipated drop fromt he brands forthcoming Fall / Winter 2010 collection.

Nike Air Rally “Hiking”

Looking like the little brother to the Nike Air Royal Mid QS “Work Boot” the Swoosh Team has re-skinned their Air Rally silhouette with a strikingly similar motif. Oddly enough; however, it was not given the same moniker of Work Boot and instead dubbed Hiking? But, I digress. The black leather shoe comes complete with the same work boot laces, contrasting white stitching, metal eyelets, and perforated Swoosh. A clean low-top take on a prevailing trend.

Uniqlo Mens Summer 2010 Lookbook

Uniqlo gives us this peak into their forthcoming Summer 2010 Collection via this lookbook. The collection offers up all the things you would expect for the summer in lighter hues with lightweight fabric blends. All with a heavy dose of rolled pant legs and infused with the sporty trend we have been watching grow over the last few months. I am not sure why, but the thought of the soft aesthetic of light heather grey sweat pants with rolled up cuffs combined with dress shoes, exposed ankles, a soft white shirt, and a deconstructed blazer just sounds like the perfect summer outfit.

Swagger x Porter “M.E.T.A.L.” Collection

Spotting an ultra soft black leather Alexander Wang studded purse at my local Barneys Co-Op store over the weekend I have found a renewed love for the studded trend. So naturally, when I heard that two urban heavyweights like Swagger and Head Porter had teamed up on this new “M.E.T.A.L.” Collection of accessories I had to report on it. The two frequent collaborators present a collection that makes heavy use of studs consisting of backpacks and wallets, each coming in both black and military green.

Caroline Winberg for Elle Italia

One of the things I love most about this shoot for Elle Italia’s April 2010 issue is that there is not an ounce of flashiness to it. Photographer David Burton captured Caroline Winberg in a unique and clear style without having to slap you in the face with it in a bold way. To me, it looks that much cooler because of it. Despite my utter disdain for the surge in popularity over recent years of the drop crotch and harem pants, the look as continued to stick around through Spring 2010 and is now molded here with the sporty trend we have been seeing as of late. Somehow the shoot titled “Urban Out Fitter” manages to cleverly take several shades of grey, tracksuit pants, and cottons paired with street elements, such as the classic trench coat and dark rimmed specs, and fuse it all together.

The Gap brand is one of the most cost effective solutions to timeless classic American style with reasonably quality of construction you can find readily available in nearly every mall across the United States. Taking their usual hiatus from bright Summer / Spring inspired hues and focusing on khaki, grey, brown and black we get a look at Gap’s forthcoming mens Fall / Winter 2010 collection. As we’ve come to expect from Gap over the years, this lineup features its fair share of khakis and button-downs, layered with knits, accessories, and the brand’s always appreciated range of outerwear designs all with a subtle dose of military-inspiration.

Instead the detail of the cut, shape, and overall aesthetic of military-inspired pieces can be molded and paired with other up and coming seasonal trends. Vogue Paris recognizing the endless possibilities has dressed Vanessa Paradis in a sexy military meets lingerie-inspired photoshoot for their May 2010 issue. Better still, the photography comes courtesy of my man, the iconic Karl Lagerfeld.
